Their white fur makes them mimic. Their small ears help limit heat loss, and their large, hairy, slightly webbed paws allow them to walk in the snow without sinking and swimming. 

They tolerate the cold thanks to their thick layer of fat under the skin and their insulating fur. 

The polar bear is found in the circumpolar arctic but it lives mainly around the sea ice off the Canadian arctic islands.

He is dependent on the ice floe because it is his hunting ground. The polar bear feeds exclusively on seals which it catches when the seals come to the surface to breathe. The polar bear is a solitary and nomadic animal.

Climate change is the main threat to the polar bear. If the melting of the ice continues at the current rate, the surface area of its summer habitat will have contracted by more than 40% by the middle of the 21 st century, reducing its population by more than two thirds.

As melting ice makes their habitat smaller and forces them to travel longer distances to find food.

Other threats push them away such as illegal hunting, pollution or even the lack of biodiversity.

Nature reserves, hunting laws and international agreements on the reduction of greenhouse gases have been established for the 

protection of polar bears. Scientific research has been carried out to better understand their ecology and better protect.
